Glynn started writing comic verse at boarding school in the late 1950s and expanded into re-writing popular songs in 1968.
He wrote the first three stories in “The Adventures of Benny the Bunny” in the late 1990s but it was a further 20 years before he found a local publisher and illustrator to put pictures to words and a decision was made to combine the story with illustrations for children to colour. During their publication, he wrote a fourth in the series. In 2023 all four books were published by Austin Macauley.
In the 1970s, Glynn re-wrote Clement Clark Moore’s “The Night Before Christmas”, but it wasn’t for another 50 years before “The Day After Christmas” was illustrated and published as a story and colouring book, first locally and then again by Austin Macauley.
With his love of music, he always wanted to have some of his alternate lyrics on disc. With the help of very talented singers and a music producer in his village, they produced “NOW Where Have I Heard That Before”, a CD of 10 parodies out for Christmas 2019. There followed a second CD “NOW We Say Thank You Everybody”, 12 tracks including tributes to the NHS and Key Workers out for Christmas 2020; a third CD “NOW To Face the Music”, 14 tracks with parodies of songs from musicals in 2021; a fourth “NOW for some Christmas Crackers”, 15 tracks of re-writes of popular Christmas hits in 2022; a fifth “NOW for some Oxonian Tragedy”, 15 tracks of re-writes of smash hits in 2023; a sixth and final "NOW For the Finale, It's Now or Never" a final 15 tracks of popular hits in 2024.
To date, Glynn has re-written over 500 song lyrics, many of which appear in two publications: “Parodies Lost” and “Parodies Regained”. During the Covid lockdown, he took it on himself to re-write “Les Miserables”. The outcome of this is “The Unfortunates” – a re-write of the original, word for word, song for song. Whereas “Les Miserables” is a tragedy with a few comic moments, “The Unfortunates” is a comedy with very few tragic moments!
During Glynn’s RAF career he enjoyed amateur dramatics and performed in many plays and musicals. His love of the theatre prompted him to write his own material. The result of this is “A Not So Famous Five”, a publication comprising one full-length murder mystery, a one-act drama, a one-act comedy and two one-act pantomimes.
Finally, despite discarding all his school poems, Glynn has assembled a collection of original comic verse under the heading of “Per Verse & Foolish”.
Glynn lives in the village of Chalgrove in Oxfordshire with his wife Kathryn. The proceeds from all sales are distributed to charities, principally to Childrens’ and Age UK.
